Regular maintenance is very important for a perfect apperance and functioning of a fountain. You can let us take care of its cleaning and maintenace.
Sediment, leaves and algae make the water dirty, murky and muddy. The presence of fish in the fountain or pond makes the cleaning additionaly harder. If you want to preserve the water clear, this requires constant attention and care. In addition to maintence services, we offer different products for the treatment of water that greatly facilitates the care of your fishpond, garden pond or fountain. They are:
- UV-C filters
- BIO filters
- BIO-UV-C filters
- algicides
- chlorine tablets
- anti-scale (water softener)
- vacuum cleaners and netting for cleaning fountains
If you have a fountain or pond in the garden, you will surely encounter a problem with algae. Algae are a weed in water gardens and we must remove them, but also create an environment which is not suitable for their appearance and reproduction.
Firstly, the water must have enough oxygen. The pumps will contribute a lot to this, since they make the water circulate and enriches it with oxygen from the air. Some pumps, as for example SICCE AQUA 3, are equipped with special air mix system which enriches the water with oxygen. Water jets, geysers, waterfalls, water cascades or similar water effects, can also effectively enrich the water with oxygen in your fountain.
In addition, plant plants that release oxygen into the water (for example Hippuris vulgaris). By planting plants with bigger floating leaves, as for example water lilies, you will also reduce the occurrence of algae and create shade, which the algae do not like.
One should neither exaggerate the number of fish, since they significantly pollute the water and make it difficult to maintain. It is known that more than one kilogram of fish per m³ of water, makes the water in the pond notably more difficult to maintain.
However, when it comes to maintaining the water quality in the fishpond or the fountain, all of this is often not enough, so you have to use other ways. It is proven that the use of UV-C filters and biofilters, individually, or, even better, together, gives the best results.
The UV-C FILTER (lamp) destroys algae, bacteria and other microorganisms. It is also efficient to fight fungus and parasites which can hurt the fish. The principle of work is simple. The pump pushes the water into the chamber of the UV-C filter, where ultraviolet light treats and clean it. The cleaned water then returns to the pond. UV-C filters are chosen depending on the size and content of the fountains, ponds or fishponds.
The BIO-FILTER also has the task to make the water clear and healthy for fish and plants. It is efficient and easy to use. It contains filtration layers through which water flows with the help of a pump. These layers of special biosponges and other suitables materials, populated with useful bacteria, filter the water and make it clean and clear. We offer two basic types of BIO-filters, flow and compression filters.
Flow BIO-filters HYDRENA BF150 (for fishponds and fountains 5-10m³) and HYDRENA BF1100 (for fishponds and fountains 25-50m³) function in a way that the water in the fishpond or fountain returns by a free fall (by gravitation, not under pressure). BIO-filters perform their maximum together with appropriate UV-C filters (lamps). BIO-filters together with UV-C filters can be connected into more complex filtration systems, which consist of several connected components. Their efficiency encreases with a larger number of components in the filtration system.
An other type of filter is the compression filter HYDRENA PF 180. Unlike the previous, it is closed by a lid with a seal and works under pressure. It has an integrated UV-C filter which enables an ever better water filtration. It is intended for ponds with a volume up to 5m³.
BIO-filters may have different capacities and are chosen depending of the size and content of the pond. If they are installed correctly, they clear water reliably and destroy algae, and lately they are used more than chemical means, since this solution is ecological, longterm and safe. You can read more about this in the product manuls.
SAND FILTERS with quartz sand are most often used to clean water in public fountains and swimming pools. They clean the water mechanically. In order to get bacteriologically proper water in the pool or fountain, it has to be treated additionally with chemical means, if we don not have in mind biological filtration, like, for example, in bio-pools.
FOUNTAIN CHEMICALS can be used if other ways of filtration do not suit you. They can also be combined with other means of filtration.
You can treat algae with algicides. You will choose the algicid depending on whether you have fish and plants in you fountain or not.
- Algorem – is a liquid algicid against green thread algae. It is applicable in all fountains, especially in ponds with fish and plants, since it is not harmful for them.
- Algofin – is a liquid algicid against algae which make the water green. It is applicable in all fountains, especially in ponds with fish and plants, since it is not harmful for them.
- Algipool – is a liquid algicid for fountains and pools in which there are no fish and plants.
- Chlorine galete (tablets) – slow mealting galete based on chlorine for water desinfection in fountains and pools.
- Triplex galete (tablets) – slow mealting galete (chlorine, algicid, flokulant) for water desinfection in fountains and pools.
The ANTI-SCALE-filter (softener) is used for softening hard water in the fountains and pools.
VACUUM CLEANERS FOR FOUNTAINS are very useful for fountain maintenance, especially for fishponds. It enables you to remove sludge from the bottom of the pond, fishpond or fountain without draining the water. It features a motor with a powerful suction effect. The vacuum tank is emptied automatically and does not require the interruption of cleaning. The kit includes telescopic fitting and hoses that allow easy cleaning of ponds from a greater distance and special suction supplements for cleaning between stones and for the vacuuming of algae.
The fountain during winter
The last beautiful autumn days are the right time to deal with your pond and prepare it for winter.
If there are not plants and fish in you fountain, it is best to entirely empty it. If during construction an option to discharge water by a valve or outflow element was not foreseen, this will be facilitated by a vacuum cleaner for fountains. If you have not yet purchased a vacuum cleaner, you can partially remove the water by using a pump and a piece of hose. Remove the remaining water from the bottom, which the pump could not pick up, with a sponge. It is best to wash, dry and keep submersible pumps and underwater spotlights in the house until spring. If the removal of this equipment is too complicated, we recommend that you wrap the washed, cleaned and dried spotlights and submersible pumps in nylon and protect them against moisture, frost and ice.
A water garden with plants and fish require more care. It is important to remove all the parts of plants that will wither and rot and thus pollute the water. Rotten leaves and stalks may cause a lot of worries. If you have plants that are resistant to coldness, remove them in due time to overwinter in an appropriate space. In the fall falling leaves from trees nearby can also be a problem. You will best solve it by covering the water surface with a net. During the winter, the water in the pond will freeze. The ice cover prevents gas exchange and causes an acute shortage of oxygen. In this way, life in the pond is threatened. Therefore it is very important that the surface of the pond always has a hole through which this transaction can be done.
The effort regarding the preparation of the pond or fountain for winter, will pay off in the spring. Use the winter to select new details that would refine and beautify your water paradise.
